TS Lines Expands Far East-East Africa CapacityTaiwanese carrier TS Lines has increased capacity for its Far East-East Africa services. They ordered two 4,300 TEU ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. They are aiming to expand mid- to long-haul service capabilities.
East Africa Express (EAX) Service EnhancementTS Lines will upgrade the EAX service with a second loop from 20 October. They will focus on Kenya (Mombasa) and Tanzania (Dar es Salaam). They are collaborating with Emirates Shipping Line, Global Feeder Shipping, Interasia Lines, KMTC Line, and RCL.
Global Container Trade GrowthAccording to a Clarksons report, global container trade grew by 8% year-on-year. It reached 58 million TEU in Q1 2024. This growth was driven by demand in emerging markets, particularly East Africa.
TS Lines’ Expansion to Long-Haul RoutesInitially an intra-Asia carrier, TS Lines has re-entered long-haul routes. They launched services to the US west coast. They also started the Thailand Reefer Express (TRX) service with RCL, connecting southern China and Thailand.
TS Lines’ Fleet Expansion with Large VesselsThe company has placed orders for three 14,000 TEU ships and two 7,000 TEU ships at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Delivery is expected from 2026 to 2027. This will enhance its fleet of over 270,000 TEU. Forty of these are owned.
